Parts of the Waterloo Undercroft and IMAX Tunnels are due to be transformed into a new food court, bar and event space, under a new agreement between Lambeth Council and Thrale Investments.
Thrale Investments are the team who operate the buzzing outdoor venue, Vinegar Yard, in neighbouring London Bridge, and are the creators of Flat Iron Square.
The venues that make up the intended scheme will be opened in phases, with the first planned to open in Christmas 2025. The bar area is expected to accommodate up to 1200 visitors, along with the food court and event space.
This project will be part of the collaborative, area-wide vision to transform the public realm in and around Waterloo Station, and improve the experiences of visitors, residents and employees moving through the area.
A crucial first phase of this vision is wayfinding: South Bank BID are currently working with Lambeth Council on an extensive wayfinding strategy, of which addressing the complexities of navigating the tunnels and undercroft will play a significant role.
We look forward to sharing updates on this exciting new arrival to South Bank in due course.
