The Waterloo Job Shop, run by South Bank Employers’ Group, provides an important local job brokerage service to unemployed residents of Lambeth, Southwark and other boroughs.
Employment and skills are both a priority and a rising challenge for South Bank BID members; the Waterloo Job Shop supports the community by raising residents’ employment aspirations, making sure they benefit from a flourishing South Bank and helping more of them to get jobs, retrain to suit the changing job market and – at the same time – helping employers find committed workers on their doorstep.
Based in Lower Marsh, right behind Waterloo Station, the Waterloo Job Shop informs residents of the employment opportunities available in their neighbourhood and supports them to apply for and secure these jobs, offering help with applications, coaching on interview techniques, and pre-employment training.
Journey2Work is a two-year programme which commenced in January 2017 – following the Government’s Business Champion for Older workers campaign – and delivered in partnership with G4S with funding from the European Social Fund and the Department for Work and Pensions.
The Journey2Work programme supports all those eligible – residents of Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark aged 40 or over and out-of-work for six months or more – to help them overcome barriers to taking up jobs. Under the programme, the Job Shop’s employment advisors support older job-seekers to find work by using connections with local communities and local employers, including those based in the South Bank BID area.
It also helps those supported to create professional CVs and to improve their interview techniques and provides on-going mentoring once they secure employment.
We want to make sure we are working with all of our BID members and are keen to understand both the practical experience required for your opportunities, as well as finding candidates with the best fit for your vacancies.
