Shell Site Redevelopment to Start Very Soon

post-image 16th July 2015

Braeburn Estates (a consortium of Canary Wharf and Qatari Diar) received planning approval from Lambeth Council for their plans for the Shell site in May 2013. This was confirmed by the Secretary of State for Communities in June 2014 following a public inquiry. Since then there have been legal challenges to the planning consent but the period for any further challenge expired last week and the development will now proceed.

Canary Wharf Contractors have now put up Heras type fencing to demarcate the site and the Shell podium area will no longer be open to public use. The fencing  will be closely followed by solid timber hoardings.

As well as the Shell development other large construction projects will come forward in the short and medium term and will affect business, residents and visitors in the area for a number of years. It is a very high priority for the South Bank BID to help mitigate the impacts of construction and we are making plans with developers, contractors, statutory authorities and others to identify opportunities for coordination and to help reduce disruption as far as possible.
