NYE Fireworks: South Bank Hosts Another Successful Display

post-image 10th January 2017

This December 31st, South Bank was again the focus of international attention as it joined other major cities around the world in hosting a huge public display of fireworks in the recognition of another year passed.

The United Kingdom, whilst not the first to celebrate, is always seen as key to the New Year’s proceedings. This is because London is the home of Greenwich Mean Time, the mean solar time set at the Royal Observatory in London.

As in past years, the team handling the event set a very high standard with a vibrant firework display and music show. London has one of the most iconic skylines in the world which is instantly recognisable to millions of viewers internationally.

South Bank BID worked with other partners including the council to again deliver a safe, managed and coordinated show for over 100,000 people.

World events forced security plans to be changed mere days before the event, however those attending were not affected and no incidents of note occurred.

During the event South Bank Employers’ Group and South Bank BID deployed teams to support the organisers within Jubilee Gardens, with Patrol Team staff and Garden Team staff to maintain the security of the area, and to ready the area to receive a huge number of visitors in the new year.

Jubilee Gardens is a key access point for the firework and lighting teams. They are on site for weeks before the event preparing and setting up. TV crews and 360 degree cameras were used on or near Jubilee Gardens.   The coordination of crew and vehicle movements is a mammoth task, however went off without a hitch.
