South Bank BID can confirm that two new Covid-19 Surge Testing mobile units have now been deployed in South Bank. This is part of a borough-wide solution to ensure all people over the age of 11 living and working in Lambeth receive a PCR test as soon as possible, following the recent detection in south London of several new cases of the Covid-19 variant first identified in South Africa.
The units are located in Jubilee Gardens and the Southbank Centre, by the Royal Festival Hall. The Jubilee Gardens unit is open from 9.00am – 3:00pm, and the Southbank Centre unit is open from 9:00am – 5:00pm. Both sites are open for walk-in testing. Take away test kits can also be returned to the team from Lambeth Council who are based next to the unit on Jubilee Gardens. Such tests should ideally be taken and returned on the same day. Take away test kits can also be returned to Lambeth Council who are in the existing test centre at St John’s Church in Waterloo, which is also open to walk-ins. You are not required to pre-book an appointment to take your PCR test, and will only be required to take one test.
If you are aged over 11 and living or working in Lambeth you should get tested, whether you have symptoms or not, and even if you have been vaccinated. Unlike with rapid tests, the PCR test is then checked in a laboratory, to detect specific variants of the virus, such as the variant first identified in South Africa. It is therefore vital in helping us stop this variant from spreading any further.
If you have been in South Bank recently, you do not need to return to South Bank to get your test, and this can be arranged with Lambeth Council here remotely or at a range of further testing sites in the borough. If you have Covid-19 symptoms, you must self-isolate before taking a test which can be delivered to you.
For employers in the South Bank area who have over 50+ employees, you can also get in touch with the BID to bulk order tests, in coordination with Lambeth Council. Please contact the BID at email@example.com for further information.
