Lumiere London returns from 18 - 21 January 2018 for a spectacular second edition that promises to be ‘bigger, brighter and bolder’.
The UK’s largest light festival will feature more than 50 UK and international artists, and will transform the capital’s streets, buildings and public spaces into an extraordinary immersive landscape of light and sound. The festival is entirely free and is set to be hugely popular with Londoners, and domestic and international visitors.
In 2018, the festival will come to the South Bank for the first time, thanks to South Bank BID’s sponsorship. Building on the phenomenal success of Lumiere London 2016, which was attended by 1.3 million people over four nights, it will provide a great opportunity for all business and operators in the area – whether visitor attractions, hotels, cafés, shops, bars and restaurants – to attract customers in what is traditionally a quiet time of year.
South Bank BID will be working with the Mayor’s office, London & Partners and others to market the festival to key audiences; we are particularly keen to encourage our audiences, especially Londoners, to make repeat visits to South Bank throughout the year.
Among the first works revealed, OSC-L by digital artist Ulf Langheinrich will transform the National Theatre’s fly tower into a glowing monument that will stand out as a transcendent beacon along South Bank’s skyline.
The Wave, an installation consisting in 40 triangular, interactive gates designed by the Danish company Vertigo, will let visitors be co-creators of their own experience, with a constantly changing pattern of sound and light along Riverside Walkway on the South Bank.
A full list of all the installations that will ‘light up’ the South Bank can be found on the Lumiere London website.
