As further lockdown measures are eased and the country moves further into a state of Covid-19 recovery. South Bank BID continues to work with both Lambeth Council and Southwark Council to ensure the needs of businesses are being heard and funding support is targeted at those in need.
The BID has worked in collaboration with Lambeth Council to release an Independent Hospitality Fund. As part of this funding package, 17 businesses in the area were identified as being eligible for a grant of £25,000, and a number have already had their application approved; this should result in £425,000 of support for local businesses.
The BID has also worked closely with our local MPs to highlight the need for further government support for South Bank’s culture and tourism sector. This issue has been raised in Parliament by Florence Eshalomi, MP for Vauxhall, and both Florence and Neil Coyle MP signed a letter to the Commissioner for Cultural Recovery to highlight the plight faced by our cultural institutions, and the support that they need.
As such, South Bank BID welcomes the Chancellor’s announcement of £1.57 billion additional support for the arts, which we hope will benefit our world-class cultural institutions. We will continue to work to support our arts and culture organisations, both large and small, during this crucial time, alongside providing support to our tourism, leisure and hospitality businesses who face ongoing challenges.
