Anti-Austerity March Update

post-image 28th July 2015

Britain’s largest anti-austerity demonstration in four years was held on 20th June and passed off with only five arrests made. The Metropolitan Police Public Order Branch worked with organisers to provide a proportionate policing operation which gave reassurance and enabled a co-ordinated approach to the march.

For the first time, Lambeth Police provided constant march and ‘splinter group’ updates to the South Bank Patrol team, partly funded by the South Bank BID, and members of the Safer Lambeth Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) members. This live communication over BRCP radios gave early warnings to local businesses about potential disruption that may affect them. Contingency plans, such as increased security or closing premises, could then be put in place by businesses to deal with possible situations.
