The South Bank Patrol provides a degree of patrol activity that directly addresses the priorities of South Bank’s businesses, visitors and residents.
Using a holistic approach that effectively blends direct enforcement and problem solving, our team guarantees a highly visible street presence.
South Bank Patrol works to reduce and deter crime, eliminate unlicensed street trading and tackle anti-social behaviour. They liaise with private security teams, police and other agencies throughout the area. The patrol is accredited for the Community Service Accreditation Scheme (CSAS), which allows the team to utilise designated police powers, such as seizure of alcohol and illegal goods, CCTV surveillance and dealing with low-level crime.
South Bank Patrol also provides an important ambassadorial presence for visitors, assisting with directions, administering first aid, and helping lost children.
Following the planned closure of the Southwark and Kennington police stations, our patrol officers will be a strategic point of contact for members of the public, working in cooperation with police officers and sharing intelligence leads, allowing for a quicker, more effective response.
The Patrol consists of six core Security Officers and a Supervisor, who are on duty seven days a week, 52 weeks a year. The high level of training, low employee turnover and rigorous selection process adds unique value to the team, confirming its key role in making the South Bank a safer and more welcoming place to work in and visit.
South Bank Patrol was founded in 2008 by South Bank Employers’ Group and is funded – through South Bank Visitor Management Group – by revenues from the London Eye Section 106 Agreement and additional funding from South Bank BID and voluntary contributions from some business members.
The work of the Patrol Team is coordinated and managed by Neil Haggertay, Head of Security, and Alex Valenzuela, Director of Public Realm at South Bank BID.
